Look Around

May 1, 2020 by Gregg DeMey

Our “shelter in place” order challenges our sanity and spiritual well-being. I’ve detected increasing signs of frustration and impatience from many folks, including myself! The prospect of some aspects of the order easing as of today (May 1) is heartening. The prospect of most of the aspects of the order continuing through May is daunting.

It’s such a mercy that our sheltering in place is occurring in spring and not in the depth of winter. It’s hopeful that even as we humans are limited in our activities, nature is bursting forth in a riot of color. To share in this hopeful power of spring growth, I’d love it if you would share a picture of something blooming near your porch or house or yard.

I’ve started the process by sharing a few of my own. You can click here.

While we may be in a wilderness time, God makes beauty bloom even in the desert. Isaiah 35 is an incredible description of what God can do--of what he may be doing even now!

Even the wilderness and desert will be glad in those days.

The wasteland will rejoice and blossom with spring crocuses.

Yes, there will be an abundance of flowers

and singing and joy! Isaiah 35:1-2

May God give you eyes to see on this beautiful May day!
