THIS WEEKEND IN WORSHIP:
Sunday Worship, May 24
This Sunday is Pentecost!
Pentecost Sunday commemorates the outpouring of God’s Holy Spirit on all believers, and falls 50 days after Easter Sunday.
Message: Nearer Than Hands and Feet - Pastor Gregg DeMey
We’ll explore Philippians 4:4–9 and the promise that “The Lord is near.” Through the Holy Spirit, God’s nearness empowers us to rejoice, pray, trust, and live faithfully. We reflect on how practicing the rhythms God gives us helps us become more aware of His presence in everyday life.
“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.” Philippians 4:4-5

Hope Mobility Collection Site - Donate Your Used Mobility Devices
On Missions Sunday, we heard from Judy Groters (watch here) about her trip to Hope Mobility in Kenya and the profound impact mobility devices have on the lives of children and adults. Elmhurst CRC serves as a collection site for gently used mobility devices (wheelchairs, walkers, canes, and crutches). To donate, bring items to church or contact the Hope Mobility office for pickup.
Missions: Prison Ministry, Get Involved
On Missions Sunday, we highlighted Prison Outreach and the powerful ways lives are being changed through prison ministry. There are several ways to pursue involvement and a life-changing connection with those incarcerated: consider being part of the next prison ministry trip to Parchman, Mississippi, this fall, the Crossroad Prison Ministries’ Bible correspondence program, or weekly outreach at the Cook County Juvenile Temporary Detention Center. Read more here. Curious about serving? Sign up here, and we’ll connect with you with next steps.

STAFF CHANGES
Staff News May 2026
We bid a fond farewell and thank you to:
Luke and Alana Norris: Luke has served as our Youth Coordinator since January 2025. He revitalized the youth program and has brought excitement, connection, and creative ideas to our students and facilities. He has been closely connected with the Young Life program at Timothy Christian and has kept students front and center by building relationships and letting students know that he cares. Alana has served as Nursery Assistant and has faithfully supported the ministry in many ways. They will be moving back to Maryland as part of a church revitalization project, where Luke will serve as Pastor of Youth and Small Groups.
Emily and Josiah Simonis: Emily has served as a Youth Coordinator since August 2025. Emily has excelled at enfolding students from different area schools and backgrounds. She has been a valuable member of our Youth Team and has enjoyed serving with the York Young Life program. She and Josiah have also loved being a part of small groups at the church. At this time, Emily feels called to pursue certification in Biblical Counseling, which is a deep passion of hers. She is gifted in one-on-one conversations and shows wisdom and care in those situations.
Both Luke and Emily’s last day will be May 31. We are thankful for the ways they have served and invested in the students of Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church. They will be missed. We pray God’s blessing over their next steps and wish them well in the pursuits ahead.
SERVE
TRY IT OUT!
This summer, Children’s Worship for preschoolers and kindergarteners invites you to “try out” volunteering as a small group leader! If you’ve been interested in serving with children but aren’t ready to make a long-term commitment, this is a great opportunity to give it a try. Children’s Worship takes place during the Sunday service, beginning after the worship portion. Children head downstairs to the large group area to hear a Bible story and engage together. Then, they break into small groups for about 20 minutes. As a leader, you would read the Bible story, guide a craft, and lead two simple games. We are especially in need of leaders in June, August, and September. If you’re available for two Sundays this summer and would like to “try out” Children’s Worship, please reach out to Kristin Reitsma!
Nursery – Summer Season
Try out the nursery for a time or two this summer! It’s a meaningful, heartfelt way to support young parents. We invite you to participate on a trial basis this summer. Contact Valerie ToddNursery Coordinator, for details.
VBS Volunteer Round-Up
